A fire Thursday gutted a mobile home in an alley behind the 1500 block of Broad Street in South Greensburg. No one was home, but firefighters rescued a pet dog in the 12:10 p.m. blaze.

Firefighters rescued a dog in a fire that destroyed a mobile home Thursday in South Greensburg.

The fire was reported at 12:10 p.m. in a mobile home that is located in an alley behind the 1500 block of Broad Street.

“The doors were locked when we got here, so we had to force our way in to make sure no one was trapped inside. No one was home fortunately,” said borough fire Chief Eric Hardy.

“We were able to rescue the family pet, a beagle mix. We gave him a shot of oxygen and some water and he appeared to be OK,” Hardy said.

Hardy said quick response by South Greensburg, Southwest Greensburg, Youngwood and Greensburg City firefighters enabled them to quickly douse the blaze.

Hardy said the trailer was a total loss. He said the fire was accidental and electrical in nature.

The identity of the homeowner was not released.
