Duo sentenced to 4 to 10 years in 2023 Latrobe machete attack
Two men were sentenced to identical state prison terms Friday in connection with a Latrobe robbery during which one of them wielded a machete.
Codi J. Barger, 30, and Marc A. Barger Jr., 34, both of Latrobe, were sentenced to four to 10 years in a state prison followed by one year of supervised release.
They pleaded guilty Friday to charges of robbery, burglary and conspiracy, according to court orders. The remaining counts were dismissed.
City police said a man’s hand was cut by the machete during the robbery. The two Bargers broke into a Chestnut Street home March 7, 2023 and pepper sprayed a man and woman inside. Police said Codi Barger cut the man’s hand with the machete before the suspects fled, leading police on a foot chase around town, according to court papers.
Police have said the two Bargers are related, but it was unclear how.
A conspiracy case against a third suspect — Julie Anne Achhammer, 26, of Latrobe — is pending. Police said she gave the Bargers a ride to the home and the pepper spray belonged to her.
