Rostraver Volunteer Fire Department reported the Westmoreland County Hazardous Materials Team and firefighters were able to contain a diesel fuel spill Wednesday along Route 51 in Rostraver after an accident involving a truck hauling oxygen and propane tanks.

None of the tanks on the truck were reported to be leaking, but there was a diesel fuel leak from the overturned truck involved in the two vehicle crash that occurred on the 4600 block of Route 51, near the Sheetz convenience store. The accident was reported at 12:46 p.m., a dispatch supervisor reported.

A section of the highway in the vicinity of the store was closed to traffic for several hours, police said.

The Rostraver Central Volunteer Fire Department reported on its Facebook page that two people were transported to an area hospital by Rostraver West Newton Ambulance for treatment of injuries after the crash.

The truck driver, Roy Waters of Pittsburgh, was able to get out of the vehicle and wait for emergency vehicles to arrive, according to police and a 911 dispatcher. He was taken to a hospital for treatment. Also involved in the crash was a 2014 Buick operated by Rita Zupanc of West Newton. Police said she wasn’t hurt.

Rostraver police are investigating.
