Everson man receives 2 years probation for assault of Lyft driver
A former Hempfield man was ordered Monday to spend two years on probation for assaulting a Lyft driver who took him home from a gentlemen’s club in 2022.
Carl L. Beltz, 43, of Everson, pleaded guilty Monday to simple assault, resisting arrest and theft. Prosecutors agreed to dismiss charges of robbery and aggravated assault.
Beltz had been scheduled for a nonjury trial.
State troopers reported in arrest papers being called to Zabie Lane off Route 30 at 12:20 a.m. March 20, 2022 where the Lyft driver said he drove Beltz from The Filly Gentlemen’s Club in South Huntingdon, a 17-mile trip.
During the ride, the driver reported Beltz was belligerent and became irate over an onboard video camera. Beltz grabbed at a cord he believed was connected to the camera, but it was actually an LED light that illuminated the backseat floor, according to court papers. Beltz also tried to run away from police in the parking lot at Independence Health Westmoreland Hospital.
