A fatal crash was reported on Interstate 70 in Rostraver on Friday morning.

A Rostraver man was killed Friday morning when his car crashed along Interstate 70 in Rostraver.

State police said Joseph E. Troyer, 35, was pronounced dead at the scene after the eastbound Ford Focus he was driving struck a tree with its passenger side and flipped onto its roof, trapping him inside.

The car crashed after it veered from the left eastbound lane, crossed the right lane, went through a guardrail and ran down a steep embankment, police said.

The crash happened at about 7:45 a.m. west of the Route 51 interchange.

Troyer, who was not wearing a seat belt, was the sole occupant of the car, police said.

The car was damaged on all sides, including the roof and undercarriage, according to police.

Westmoreland County Coroner Tim Carson said head injuries contributed to the death.

Shumaker Funeral Home of Punxsutawney is in charge of arrangements.
