Crews from multiple fire companies work at house fire that set off fireworks inside this North Ruby Street home in Derry Township on Tuesday, July 2, 2019.

No one was injured when fire tore through a Derry home Tuesday night, igniting fireworks contained inside.

Firefighters responded after a fire was reported after 9:30 p.m. at 144 N. Ruby St. They knocked down the blaze in about 20 minutes, despite the fireworks going off and a hydrant that broke, fire officials said.

“We had the fireworks, and it didn’t help that the hydrant our truck was sitting on broke,” said Bradenville Fire Chief Mark Piantine. “We had to call in a tanker. We had (the fire) knocked down until the hydrant broke.”

Piantine said two adults and several children were displaced by the fire, which was reported shortly after 9:30 p.m.
