Former Bullskin pain clinic physician accused of improper preparation of medication
A physician who operated a pain clinic near the Fayette-Westmoreland border has been indicted on accusations that he sold and administered injections to patients that were prepared in unsanitary conditions at his Monroeville home, according to court papers.
John I. Park, 67, is charged with adulteration of a drug shipped in interstate commerce.
His clinic operated in the Tri-City Medical Center, just off Route 119 and south of Westmoreland County in Bullskin, Fayette County. A grand jury found that Park “prepared syringes with a self-measured mixture” of pain medications in his home office and bedroom sometime before July 2019, according to the indictment. The mixtures involved lidocaine and glucose.
The pre-filled syringes were stored in his refrigerator amid food and other items before being transported to the practice, jurors said.
“Laboratory analysis confirmed that that the glucose/lidocaine concentrations of the contents of the filled syringes varied significantly,” the indictment states.
Park now lives in California, prosecutors said. An arrest warrant was issued for him Tuesday. He did not have an attorney listed in court records and could not be reached. No court action has been set.
Park’s license to practice as a physician and surgeon connected to an address in California was issued in 1985, according to Pennsylvania records. It expired in March 2021 and currently is inactive.
A second license connected to the pain clinic that listed him as an acupuncturist was issued in 1990. That license expired in April 2021. Neither license had any disciplinary actions associated with it.
It was unclear if he was practicing medicine in California. A search of medical licenses in the state showed that none matched his name.
