Two Franklin Regional Middle School students took their knowledge of history all the way to the National History Day competition’s national level last month.

Humna Anzaar and Symal Bukhari took first and third place, respectively, at the National History Day state-level competition, earning spots at the nationals, held June 12 at the University of Maryland just outside Washington, D.C. Anzaar’s entry was on the formation of the nation of Bangladesh, and Bukhari’s was about the 1978 Camp David Accord agreements between Egypt and Israel.

FRMS’ seventh-grade social studies team provides students an opportunity to compete in the National History Day project every year. It is only the second time in school history that students have reached the national finals. Neither student placed in the finals. Anzaar placed third in the nation at the finals in 2022.
