The public is invited to a homecoming bonfire Wednesday at Greensburg Salem High School.

Set for 5:30 to 8 p.m. at the school’s gravel parking lot, the event is sponsored by the Student Council Association. It is meant to heighten community and school spirit in advance of the varsity football team’s homecoming football game Friday against visiting East Allegheny.

In addition to gathering around the bonfire, those attending will be able to try their hand at yard games and a 75-foot inflatable obstacle course.

Members of the homecoming court will be introduced during a pep rally that will feature performances by the school marching band and cheerleaders. Varsity athletes who are participating in fall sports will be on hand to greet attendees.

School clubs will have booths at the event. Food and drinks will be available.

“The bonfire was recently reintroduced as a part of our homecoming celebration but was not held in 2020 due to pandemic restrictions,” said Christopher Gazze, co-adviser of student council.

Last year, the event was rained out. Thursday will be the rain date for this year’s bonfire.

Beginning at 6:15 p.m. Friday, a homecoming parade will proceed through downtown Greensburg to Offutt Field, where the game is set for a 7 p.m. kickoff.

The homecoming queen will be crowned at halftime.
