State flags at government buildings across Pennsylvania will fly at half-staff until sunset Wednesday by order of Gov. Tom Wolf, in honor and memory of late Mt. Pleasant mayor and fire chief Gerald “Jerry” Lucia.

He died unexpectedly Dec. 17 and will be buried Wednesday.

Lucia had responded to a fire call late Thursday night. Joe Bauer, president of the Mt. Pleasant Volunteer Fire Department, said Lucia’s death is being treated as a line-of-duty death because it occurred within 24 hours of a fire call.

Lucia was in his ninth term as mayor, an office he had held since 1985. He served on borough council for six years, from 1979-85.

He was a member of the first graduating class at Geibel High School in 1964.

Family and friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. today and 2 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Brooks Funeral Home, 406 East Washington St. in Mt. Pleasant. The Mt. Pleasant Volunteer Fire Department will conduct a memorial service at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

A blessing ceremony will be held at the funeral home at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, followed by a 10 a.m. funeral Mass at St. Pius X Church, 224 Summit St. in Mt. Pleasant.
