A Greensburg man is behind bars after city police said he threw a brick at a 9-year-old boy.

Donald S. Meighan Jr., 44, is charged with aggravated assault, child endangerment, simple assault and public drunkenness.

A witness who heard yelling in the area of Holloway Way and College Avenue Thursday reported to authorities she saw a man later identified as Meighan throw a brick at the boy in the backyard of a Brown Avenue home. The brick didn’t hit the child and shattered upon impact, according to court papers.

When police found Meighan, he appeared to be intoxicated. A witness told authorities that he had been drinking throughout the day.

Meighan told police he threw a snowball at the boy. Police reported in court papers that the temperature at 6:15 p.m. time was 58 degrees and there was no snow on the ground.

He was being held at the Westmoreland County Prison on $75,000 bail. A Feb. 1 preliminary hearing is set. He did not have an attorney listed in online court records.
