A Greensburg man is in the Westmoreland County Prison without bond after allegedly beating and choking a woman during an argument and assaulting her adult son.

City police arrested Franz Nute Wade, 57, early Thursday outside the victim’s residence on Jefferson Street. He is charged with strangulation and multiple counts of simple assault and harassment.

When officers arrived after the woman called for help, Wade was waiting outside, Patrolman William Newmyer reported.

“Wade had blood dripping from his hands in addition to a possible stab wound (near) his right eye … caused by a broken beer bottle,” Newmyer wrote in court documents.

The woman “was also bleeding and appeared to have an injury to her right eye, a cut on her foot and blood covering her arms and chest,” Newmyer reported. “There also appeared to be bruising on her face, neck and chest.”

Police report the victim’s son said he was also assaulted by Wade while trying to separate his mother and Wade.

Newmyer said both Wade and woman required medical treatment.

Police say they received multiple explanations for how Wade suffered the stab wound near his eye. The victim’s son said when he entered the bedroom during the altercation, “both men fell on the dresser … where the beer bottle somehow broke,” and the broken glass caused Wade’s injury.

Wade told police the woman, who uses a wheelchair, broke the bottle on the dresser and then attempted to stab him with it. Both the woman and her son alleged Wade beat her with a glass candleholder during the altercation and choked her.

Wade was arraigned after he was treated in the emergency room of Excela Health Westmoreland Hospital in Greensburg, where several stitches were required to close the wounds on his hands and eye, Newmyer said.

Wade told police the altercation began when he informed the woman that he was going to “move out the next day.”

Newmyer said the victim will also be charged via mailed summons.

District Judge Chris Flanigan reported that she denied bond for Wade because he “is a danger to the community.” Wade has multiple assault convictions in the county, according to court documents.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled April 30.
