A 29-year-old Greensburg man was ordered held in the county jail after assaulting a woman and threatening harm to her 1-year-old infant early Monday.

Kevin M. Reese, of Eastmont Drive, was charged with endangering the welfare of children, flight to avoid apprehension, harassment, simple assault and strangulation after the 4:37 a.m. assault in the Eastmont Estates apartment complex.

A woman told Patrolman Reginald Harbarger that Reese came to the apartment, where the pair got into an argument and “he immediately punched her in the head.”

The woman told police that Reese then got on top of her and began choking her, Harbarger reported. She said she escaped, but Reese caught her and allegedly began choking her again. She told police she escaped a second time and picked up her infant child, who was crying.

“(Reese) grabbed her by the neck with his hand and told her that if he ended up hitting (the infant) he would kill her,” Harbarger wrote in court documents.

The woman fled the apartment and called for help.

Harbarger said Reese, who had been drinking, also fled the area before police arrived but was apprehended nearby a short time later. According to court documents, Reese attempted to run from police “but fell into a brush pile” and was taken into custody.

Harbarger said Reese had an outstanding arrest warrant for an alleged assault on Nov. 14.

The woman was treated at the scene, according to police reports.

Reese was arraigned before acting District Judge Joseph DeMarchis, who refused to set bond. “No bond conditions or combination of conditions will ensure the public safety,” the judge wrote in court documents.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled Sept. 17 before Greensburg District Judge Chris Flanigan.
