Food trucks that participate at the Greensburg Night Market are among such vendors who stand to benefit from a streamlined approval process set forth in a new city ordinance.

Food trucks have become an increasingly frequent feature at in Greensburg. such as the monthly Greensburg Night Market.

A new city ordinance approved this week is meant to make it easier for the truck operators to obtain permission to offer their fare while also reducing the time Greensburg officials spend processing the requests.

Instead of each vendor individually seeking approval to operate in the city, an event organizer can submit a combined application for all participating food trucks, Councilman Gregory Mertz said. That process can be completed online using the city’s OpenGov platform.

Once a truck has been cleared for operation in the city, the vendor can return multiple times in the same year for additional events arranged by the same organizer, according to Mertz.

“They can submit the paperwork once and don’t have to do it every time, and each vendor doesn’t have to come in,” Mertz said. “It makes it more affordable for these small vendors.”

A revised fee schedule charges $40 for a one-time vending event or $100 per year for recurring food sales.

“It makes it a little bit easier,” said Jessica Hickey, who has always kept tabs on required licensing of food trucks she approves for the Greensburg Night Market, which she operates. “I think it streamlines it a little bit more.

“It’s making sure on both ends of the event that the food trucks have licenses. I have them on record, and the city has them.”
