Greensburg woman charged by police with stabbing boyfriend

A Greensburg woman is accused of stabbing her boyfriend with a kitchen knife during an argument last weekend, city police said.
Laura M. Piper, 29, is charged with aggravated assault, harassment and simple assault after the incident Sunday morning at the Eastmont Estates apartment complex, according to city police. She was released Tuesday from the Westmoreland County Prison after posting $10,000 bond.
Patrolman Jason Fidazzo said police were dispatched to the apartments to investigate a report of a man being stabbed.
Fidazzo reported in court documents that, when police arrived, they were met by Piper, who said she had gotten into an argument with her boyfriend, who was bleeding inside his apartment. Police located the man, “who was holding a towel on the right side of his head and had a moderate amount of blood covering his face,” Fidazzo reported.
Fidazzo said the man told police he argued with Piper, who began hitting and scratching him. He said he held her down in an attempt to calm her. He told police when he let Piper go, she went into the kitchen, retrieved a knife and swung it at him, “causing a laceration on the right side of his head.”
The man was taken by ambulance to Excela Health Westmoreland hospital in Greensburg, where police said he received seven staples to close the wound.
Police said he also had swelling on his face, multiple scratches around his chest and neck, “and a bite mark with broken skin on his left shoulder.”
Fidazzo said Piper claimed the man assaulted her, but “she said she didn’t know what happened (to the man) because she blacked out.”
According to police reports, Fidazzo reported that Piper had no visible injuries.
Piper could not be reached for comment. She did not have an attorney listed and has no prior criminal record, according to court documents.
A preliminary hearing is scheduled Feb. 4.
