Here are 5 things to do in Westmoreland this weekend: May 16-18
Now that the heat is ramping up, it’s time to enjoy the outdoors — or escape to the air conditioning inside, if you prefer. Here’s what’s going on in Westmoreland this weekend.
Agatha Christie’s ‘The Mousetrap’
Fun fact: Agatha Christie’s “The Mousetrap” is the longest-running play in theatrical history. It celebrated its 30,000th performance on London’s West End this year. And now, Greensburg Civic Theatre is bringing this riveting show right to our backyard.
In this mystery, a murder takes place at Monkswell Manor — and everyone is trapped there due to a snowstorm, including the killer. The ending is a real twist; make sure not to reveal it to anyone after you leave the theater, it’s a long-running tradition.
Performances of Greensburg Civic Theatre’s “The Mousetrap” will be held at 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday and at 2 p.m. Sunday. All shows will be held at the Greensburg Garden and Civic Center, 951 Old Salem Road, Greensburg. Advance tickets are $17, $15 for seniors and $13 for students. To get yours, visit gctheatre.org.
Sunday Fun Day
May is Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month, and the Westmoreland Museum of American Art is celebrating with a Sunday Fun Day that emphasizes the rich and varied cultural history of Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders.
The all-ages event will include a station for Chinese calligraphy, performances by Tuika’s Polynesian Island Magic and Xiaobo Waist Drum Dance Group, a performance of the Japanese storytelling and theatrical art of Kamishibai and more. Participants can also design a Japanese-inspired fan and see Haku and Lei making demonstrations. And don’t forget some delicious cuisine from local vendors including Billu’s Indian Grill and Bobas R Us.
This free community event will run 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday at the Westmoreland Museum of American Art, 221 N. Main St., Greensburg. See the full schedule for the day at thewestmoreland.org.
