Idlewild in Ligonier Township will open for its 142nd season Saturday and Sunday with special prices on admission and concessions.

The park voted for the ninth consecutive year as “The Best Children’s Park in the World” by Amusement Today magazine will commemorate the start of its season with special $18.78 admission tickets, available online. Also, to celebrate the amusement park’s longevity it is offering parkgoers hot dogs, ice cream cones and popcorn at a special price of $1.42 both days.

Park operations will be on a limited schedule, 11:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. both days. The SoakZone water park will open Memorial Day weekend and daily operations begin May 31.

New this season is “The Once Upon a Time Machine: A Fairy Tale Adventure,” an evening show that tells the story of Mother Goose’s latest invention and will feature Princess Lily.

A New York classic Bavarian waffle company, Wafels and Dinges, also is new and will be located in the Hootin’ Holler section of the park. It offers multiple toppings and fresh fruit, spreads and creams.

Auntie Anne’s Pretzels, the country’s largest hand-rolled pretzel franchise, is also opening a second location in the SoakZone area of the park.

Season passes are available for as low as $69.99. Passholders receive exclusive perks and discounts.

Discounted passes are also available to both senior citizens ages 60-years-old and over and military members. For more information on Idlewild & SoakZone is available at www.idlewild.com

Founded in 1878, Idlewild & SoakZone is the third-longest operating amusement park in the United States. It is located off of Route 30.
