Jeannette considering rehabilitation of donated property
A property on Frothingham Avenue is being donated to Jeannette and city officials said a home on it may be rehabilitated or demolished.
City council last week accepted the donation of 148 Frothingham Ave. in a 4-1 vote. Councilwoman Michelle Langdon cast the opposing vote.
City manager Ethan Keedy said demolition is an option, as is potentially rehabilitating the home. Either project could be funded through dedicated streams of county, state or federal dollars, he said.
Keedy and code enforcement officer Bill Whetzel visited the home at the intersection of New Jersey Way last week. Whetzel said he recently sent a letter to the property owner indicating the parcel was being considered for demolition because of its history of violations.
That letter prompted its eventual donation to the city. The property had not yet gone through the demolition hearing process.
“It was going to be in my next round,” Whetzel said.
