A 37-year-old man who Greensburg police say led multiple Westmoreland County police departments on a chase between Jeannette and Penn Township, eventually crashing into a utility pole, has been charged with 10 more criminal and traffic complaints.
Thomas Campbell, of Jeannette, is being held in the county jail on $75,000 bond following his arrest last week for fleeing and eluding and animal cruelty. Penn Township police since filed multiple counts related to the incident, including a felony charge of illegally entering an unoccupied structure.
Campbell fled in his sport utility vehicle 1:45 p.m. Wednesday when an investigator attempted to question him about a series of recent thefts at a Gander Outdoors store, reported Detective John Swank of the Greensburg Police Department.
In addition to illegally entering a structure, Penn Township police also charged Campbell with multiple counts of reckless endangerment, criminal mischief, damaging an unoccupied structure and multiple traffic complaints in connection with the pursuit. Police apprehended Campbell hiding beneath a mobile home in Claridge several hundred yards from the location where he crashed his Jeep.
During the incident, police said Campbell abandoned a backpack with five kittens on Evans Avenue in Jeannette. Police took the kittens to Wayward Animal Rescue in Greensburg for adoption.
Campbell also was wanted on an arrest warrant by North Huntingdon police for a separate retail incident in September, according to police.
