Single-lane restrictions are set to begin Monday on sections of Route 119 in Youngwood and Interstate 70 in South Huntingdon as work progresses on improvements to the highways.

Nighttime lane restrictions are expected to get underway the same day to accommodate bridge preservation work on several other roads in Westmoreland County, according to PennDOT.

In Youngwood, traffic restrictions will be in place on Fourth Street, which carries southbound traffic through the borough on Route 119, as contractor Golden Construction paves the road. The work is expected to continue through June 9 and will cause intermittent closures of side streets off Fourth, between Hillis Street and Stouts Carpeting.

It’s part of PennDOT’s reconstruction of that section of the Route 119 corridor, including new pavement and sidewalks along Fourth Street and Third Street, which carries northbound traffic.

Daytime restrictions are planned over several days in both directions on I-70, in the area of the Yukon interchange.

The restrictions will be in effect from 6 a.m. Monday through 3 p.m. Thursday and again from 6 a.m. May 31 through 3 p.m. June 1.

Trumbull Corporation will do repairs and sealing as part of a $92.8 million I-70 project involving reconstruction of the Yukon and Madison interchanges, reconstruction and widening of an adjacent section of the interstate and replacement of four bridges on I-70.

Traffic restrictions will remain in place overnight as needed for concrete curing. Additional daytime restrictions will occur during the week of June 5 as needed to complete the work.

Nighttime lane restrictions will be in place on six different road segments, according to the following schedule, while Mekis Construction crews replace compression seals and place epoxy overlays on various bridges:

• Trafford Road, between Meadowbrook Road and William Penn Highway, in Murrysville — beginning at 8 p.m. Monday;

• North Center Avenue, between Arona Road and Westinghouse Drive, in New Stanton — between 6 p.m. Monday and 8 a.m. Tuesday;

• Greensburg Road (Route 366), between Albee Drive and Dutch Run Road, in Upper Burrell Township — beginning at 6 p.m. Tuesday;

• Seventh Street (Route 56), between Stephenson Boulevard and Bell Street, in New Kensington — beginning at 8 p.m. Wednesday;

• Freeport Street (Route 366), between Greensburg Road and Bridge Street, in New Kensington — between 6 p.m. Wednesday and 8 a.m. Thursday.

• Stevenson Boulevard (Route 366), between Seventh and Fourth streets in New Kensington — beginning at 6 p.m. Thursday.

Traffic will be controlled by flaggers.

The nighttime work is part of a $2.08 million project to preserve and repair 22 bridges on 16 routes in Westmoreland County. Construction is expected to wrap up by October.

PennDOT crews additionally are planning the following maintenance work during the week beginning Monday on various roads in Westmoreland:

• Paving on Route 30 in Hempfield;

• Patching on Marguerite Lake Road in Unity, Fellsburg Road in Rostraver and Route 906 in Monessen;

• Crack sealing on Route 30 Lincoln Highway in Ligonier Township and Route 31 in Donegal Township;

• Pipe repair/replacement on Route 119 in Crabtree and Willow Crossing Road, both in Hempfield, and on Hypocrite Creek Road in Fairfield;

• Shoulder cutting on Route 982 in Unity and Derry townships;

• Bridge repair/cleaning on Route 119 in New Stanton and Hypocrite Creek Road in Fairfield;

• A slide repair on Loughner Road in Fairfield.
