The Lincoln Highway Experience museum is partnering with Ligonier’s American Legion Auxiliary for a Family Night evening of food and fun on the museum lawn along Route 30 in Unity.

The open-air event is set for 5 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, weather permitting.

Planned to appeal to younger families, it will feature live music by a regional ukulele group, yard games, cornhole and other activities for all ages.

“It’ll be a great way for parents and grandparents to spend an evening out with the kids in a fun outdoor environment,” said Spencer Simpson, the museum’s manager of visitor services.

The Legion Auxiliary will sell hot dogs, nachos and cheese, pizza, baked goods and beverages.

“The parking fee of $5 per car will support the Lincoln Highway Heritage Corridor’s mission to preserve and promote Lincoln Highway resources over six Pennsylvania counties.

Proceeds from the auxiliary food sales will go toward replacement of an aging support vehicle for the annual PA Hero Walk, a 320-mile fundraising walk across Pennsylvania that assists veterans in need of help with such necessities as utility bills and housing.

“Their camper is very old and on its last leg,” said Dawn Meyer, fundraising, membership and event coordinator for the Legion Auxiliary. “I thought it would be perfect for us to do this. Most of their walk is on the Lincoln Highway.”

With limited tables available, Family Night attendees are encouraged to bring chairs or blankets. They may not bring pets or outside food or enter the grounds before 4:30 p.m.
