A litter of kittens and an adult cat were abandoned during the weekend near a large trash bin in a Hempfield shopping complex.

The people accused of leaving the animals behind were caught on camera and investigators are working to learn their identities.

The animals were found behind the Greengate East shopping plaza off Route 30, according to Andrea Palmer, a humane officer at All But Furgotten. Humane officers started investigating after the video surfaced on social media.

The kittens were all rescued and are safe, Palmer said.

“The kittens already have homes,” she said Thursday. “The mother was trapped this morning, and Wayward Whiskers in Greensburg has taken them in.”

Investigators are now working to track down the man and woman seen in the video.

“People who do these kinds of things are cowards,” Palmer told Tribune-Review news partner WPXI. “There’s so many rescues out there, there are so many shelters. There’s so many other options, just reach out. Social media has so many open doors, reach out to somebody.”
