Man breaks leg in Cedar Creek Park accident
A man was rescued after breaking his leg in a fall on Sunday afternoon at Westmoreland County’s Cedar Creek Park in Rostraver Township.
The unidentified man was hiking the Gorge Trail when the accident happened, according to the Rostraver Central Fire Department Facebook page. The post said RCFD units were dispatched for a rescue along with crews from Rostraver West Newton Emergency Services.
Rescuers used a type of stretcher known as a Stokes basket to move the victim from an isolated area to a landing zone at the park’s model plane airfield. STAT MedEvac flew the man to UPMC Presbyterian Hospital in Pittsburgh.
Dispatchers for the Westmoreland County Park Police, who also responded, were told the man had tripped and fallen about 20 feet. Rescuers had to travel about a half mile along the trail to reach the victim, according to Henry Fontana, chief of the park police.
Rostraver Township VFD - Webster assisted at the scene, according to the Facebook post.
