Pittsburgh police arrest 2, recover stolen car, 2 guns
Pittsburgh police arrested two men on charges of receiving stolen property and other violations after discovering a stolen car and a stolen gun near the scene of a fight early Monday along Wright’s Way in the city’s South Side Flats neighborhood.
Detectives on patrol discovered a fight involving four people at about 2:15 a.m. after they heard a gunshot coming from a parking lot at Wright’s Way and South 18th Street. Others were spotted running from the scene.
After questioning some of those involved and reviewing city camera footage, police arrested Rayshan Hammond, 30, of Penn Hills. Police also recovered a stolen gun from underneath a vehicle.
About a half hour later, police saw another man return to a vehicle in the parking lot that had been reported stolen from Detroit, Mich. A gun was protruding from under the driver’s seat.
As a result, Andre Yates, 24, of Pittsburgh was arrested on charges including receiving stolen property and carrying a firearm without a license.
In addition to the stolen property violation, Hammond was charged with aggravated assault, recklessly endangering another person, carrying a firearm without a license and disorderly conduct.
According to court documents, Yates also is charged with possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance and several traffic violations, stemming from a separate March 1 incident in the city.
He was denied bail at his arraignment and was placed in the Allegheny County Jail pending a June 26 preliminary hearing.
