A Mt. Pleasant Township house was destroyed by fire late Friday night.
The fire at the house at 274 Freeman Falls Road started in the garage and spread from the breezeway into the house, Kecksburg fire Chief Adam Krozel said. The fire then spread into the roof area, the chief said.
The garage already was burning when firefighters arrived, Krozel said.
Those inside the home were able to safely escape the fire, according to county dispatchers.
Firefighters had to rely on pumper trucks from multiple fire companies. The house, about halfway between the intersection of Route 31 and Clay Pike, was about three miles from the nearest hydrant at Brady’s Restaurant on Route 31, requiring tankers to shuttle between the house and hydrant. Other tankers approached the house from the Clay Pike intersection, Korzel said.
Firefighters were on the scene until about 2:15 a.m., Krozel said.
The house is owned by Amy S. and William D. Hoffer Jr. of Acme, according to the Westmoreland County tax map. The Hoffers could not be reached for comment Sunday.
