2 adults, 5 children injured in crash on Route 711 in Ligonier Township
Two adults and five children were injured Monday morning after a two-vehicle crash between a Porsche and a Chevrolet Suburban on Route 711 in Ligonier Township, according to Ligonier Valley police Chief Mike Matrunics.
The head-on collision occurred at about 8 a.m. when one of the vehicles apparently crossed the center line, according to Matrunics.
Mutual Aid Ambulance spokesman Shawn Penzera said all of the children were in car seats. One man was flown to Conemaugh Hospital in serious condition. One child was flown to Children’s Hospital in Pittsburgh in stable condition. The others were transported by ambulance in stable condition, Penzera said.
The crash occurred just north of the Mutual Aid ambulance station on Route 711.
“Our crews were inside and they heard something which they said felt like it shook the building,” Penzera said. “They came outside and immediately started care.”
Matrunics indicated it was the driver of the Porsche — Colin Keough, 18, of Latrobe — who was severely injured. The SUV was being driven by Amy Blythe, 34, of Ligonier, he said. The ages of the children were not available.
The road was closed for a few hours while investigators reconstructed the crash scene. Ligonier Valley police were assisted by a Westmoreland County detective.
