With wind chills plunging below zero on Wednesday and Thursday, Murrysville is making a warming center available both days on an as-needed basis.

Anyone in need of emergency shelter should contact police Capt. Chuck Tappe at 724-309-2369 or ctappe@murrysvillegov.org and request assistance.

“If I receive a call, I will notify our shelter team and the shelter will be opened. It will not be a walk-in type situation,” said Tappe, emergency management coordinator.

The warming center, located at Murrysville Alliance Church, 4130 Old William Penn Hwy., will be activated by the Murrysville-Export Emergency Management Agency, he said.

Two cold weather shelters also are open in Greensburg and Latrobe from 8 p.m. to 8 a.m.

The Welcome Home Shelter for women and families is at 218 S. Maple Ave., Greensburg, and can be reached at 724-838-9133.

The Union Mission men’s shelter is at 2217 Harrison Ave., Latrobe, and can be reached at 724-539-3550.
