It’s summer festival season, and local towns are gearing up to celebrate the season with food, music and the occasional fireworks display.
In Murrysville, municipal officials will host the fifth Murrysville Concert in the Park, 4056 Wiestertown Road, from 3 p.m. to dusk Aug. 13 at Murrysville Community Park.
“We’ll have 11 food trucks, kettle corn, the Kona Ice truck and ice cream,” said recreation department director Carly Greene.
The festival boasts a full lineup of bands that changes every year. This year the bands include the blues sound of Jimmy Mac and the Attack, the country-rock strains of Colin Southfield & the Mushroom Country Band, BB Steal’s ‘80s Live and the throwback sound of the Jazz Warriors.
“Having a big seated group like the Jazz Warriors is a little bit different for us,” Greene said. “And BB Steal puts up a big screen showing scenes from 1980s music videos and other pop-culture stuff from that era.”
The festival will conclude with fireworks following the last band.

In Export, the annual Food & Music Festival is set for noon to 9 p.m. Aug. 20 along Washington Avenue, with the main stage near the Export Volunteer Fire Department and a side stage at the Export Moose.
This year’s festival will also include the 3 p.m. dedication of the replica Export train station, built earlier this year and future home to exhibits curated by the Export Historical Society.
Councilman and society member John Nagoda said the train station has already proven popular.
“I’m amazed at how many people use it already,” he said. “The comments I’ve heard have shown me it’s already an asset to the community. It was a great idea in conjunction with the (Westmoreland Heritage) Trail, and the museum part of it is coming together nicely.”
Along with food and craft vendors, the main stage at the Food & Music Festival will open the day at 12:15 p.m. with a performance from the borough’s own DeStella Dance Studio, whose members recently won a Star Dance Alliance World Dance Championship title in late July.
Other performances include Jack Tady at 1 p.m., the Liquor Missiles at 3:30 p.m., the Cash Out Show at 5:30 p.m. and Nacho Blues at 7:30 p.m.
The stage at the eastern end of town will host performances by Kal & Moore (12:30 p.m.), Dave Stout (2:30 p.m.) and the Brothers Kelly (4:30 p.m.). Bubs McKeg & the Aces will perform at Joey’s the Edge from 6-9 p.m.
