Duff Park is the oldest municipal park in Murrysville, established in the late 1960s.

Murrysville Public Works crews are set to begin making improvements to the parking area at Duff Park starting March 4, which will include a permanent restroom.

“We want to put in a facility that can be used year-round and will be cleaned once a week,” Murrysville Public Works Director Bill Paiano said. “We want to have something down there that’s heated and can be used anytime.”

Friends of Murrysville Parks founder Pia Van de Venne said she’s happy to see the improvements, but was hoping to include some additional parking.

“I always had wanted to try and get some extra parking along Mallard Lane, which is just up School Road South,” Van de Venne said. “It’s land that belongs to the municipality, but it’s complicated because it would require a little bridge over the tributary. I’ve mentioned it several times, but I’ve been told it will not work.”

Paiano said the main goal is sprucing up the existing parking lot.

“We’re going to kind of square things up a little bit, add a wall that will give us a little more room, and pave some of the parking area,” he said.

The parking lot will be temporarily closed during the work.

Access to the park during a closure can be found at the nearby Roberts Trailhead, 4301 William Penn Highway in Murrysville. A short trail connects to the Funk Bikeway within the park.

Paiano said he would like the work to be finished by June. For more, call 724-327-2100, ext. 311.
