As the summer growing season kicks into high gear, Larry Musser of Musser’s Farm Market in Penn Township is gearing up to boost his production to make produce available in more locations.
A new Musser’s store will open this summer in the former Second Fiddle location on Route 66 in Delmont.
“I signed the lease for it a month ago, and now it’s a matter of getting the inspections done,” Musser said. “I was looking all over the area, even all the way up to Blairsville, for something that would work, and it came up for a lease at the right time.”
Musser said the farm used to have a spot in the same area where they sold produce in the 1980s.
In addition to opening a new store, Musser is plowing new ground, having rented field space from Schramm Farms & Orchards, which closed at the end of 2021.
“I’ve been good friends with them for a long time,” Musser said. “I’m renting the farm down the road from them as well.”
Musser, who grew up on the Dutch Hollow Road farm he operates, said he is looking forward to the expansion.
“I’d like to try and use some of the new fields to grow some different things eventually, but for now we’ll be doing most of the same crops,” he said.
Musser said he hopes to have the new store open by mid-July. It will be at 2282 Route 66, Delmont. Once it is open, it will be the main location for sales, along with the regional farmers markets where Musser’s also sells produce.
