New Alexandria man accused of resisting arrest, assaulting Delmont officer

A New Alexandria man is accused of assaulting a Delmont police officer and resisting arrest, according to court dockets.

Austin J. Heasley, 27, also is charged with aggravated assault, disorderly conduct, providing false information to a police officer, public drunkenness and simple assault stemming from the incident early Tuesday morning along the 200 block of East Pittsburgh Street.

Delmont Police Chief T.J. Klobucar said the officer, Jacob Cholock, was not seriously injured and was able to make the arrest.

According to court documents, Cholock was dispatched to investigate a suspicious person walking through yards and between houses near Heaps Way and Greensburg Street. Court records reported the man was carrying a 40-ounce bottle of beer.

When Cholock caught up to Heasley, he was standing on a porch on East Pittsburgh Street and said a friend dropped him off and he was there to visit his uncle. Cholock said in court documents that he provided him with a false name, James Austin.

Cholock said he knocked on the door and Heasley’s uncle answered and said Heasley is his nephew, but he wasn’t expecting him.

As Cholock attempted to confirm Austin Heasley’s actual identity with county dispatchers and check if he had any outstanding warrants, Heasley became combative and repeatedly kicked the officer, according to reports. Cholock said he was able to handcuff Heasley and place him in the patrol car.

Heasley was released on $10,000 unsecured bond pending a preliminary hearing June 9.
