New Dominion Energy HQ gets ‘green building’ rating

The new Western Area Headquarters for Dominion Energy Transmission Inc. has achieved the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, or LEED, rating, the natural gas company said.
The silver-level certification rating means the Salem Township building meets environmentally stringent requirements developed by the U.S. Green Building Council. LEED measures energy savings, water efficiency, carbon emissions reduction, improved indoor air quality and stewardship of resources, Dominion Energy said.
The 16,500-square-foot building is considered 30% more energy efficient than a conventional building of the same size and type, the company said.
The building, located near the intersection of Rock Springs Road and Old William Penn Highway, is Dominion Energy’s second facility in Pennsylvania and 10th overall since 2008 to achieve the LEED certification, the company said.
Fifty Dominion Energy employees from the nearby Oakford Compressor Station and Mamont Training Center moved into the building last summer.
The building was constructed by March Westin of Morgantown, W.Va., and designed by the Thrasher Group of Bridgeport, W.Va. Pittsburgh-based evolveEA was the LEED consultant.
Dominion Energy has pipelines, compressor stations and underground storage facilities in Western Pennsylvania.
