New George Washington painting at Fort Ligonier will depict ‘friendly fire incident’

Ligonier native and renowned sculptor Chas Fagan will unveil a new commission on George Washington at Fort Ligonier on Friday.
The unveiling of the painting “Flash Point,” about Washington’s “friendly fire incident” during the French and Indian War, will be held at the Fort Ligonier Association’s Annual Meeting at 5:30 p.m. Friday.
Fagan spoke about the “friendly fire incident” during a lecture series at Fort Ligonier in 2014. The painting was commissioned for the museum’s new George Washington Gallery.
The unveiling, including remarks by Fagan, will be held at the Fort Ligonier Center for History Education, 200 S. Market St., Ligonier.
Fagan, who lives with his family in Charlotte, N.C., is known for several high-profile commissions, including sculptures of President Ronald Reagan, astronaut Neil Armstrong and civil rights pioneer Rosa Park, as well as portraits of First Lady Barbara Bush and St. Teresa of Calcutta (Mother Teresa).
