This map shows closure and detour information as roundabout construction is slated to begin on Monday in the Mt. Pleasant Township village of Norvelt.

A section of a complex triangular intersection in the Mt. Pleasant Township village of Norvelt will close Monday as part of PennDOT’s construction of a new roundabout.

The short section of Mount Pleasant Road that curves to the right for southbound traffic heading onto Route 981 will close. Instead, southbound motorists will be directed to make a short detour, turning left onto Kecksburg Road and then turning right onto Route 981.

The reverse order of turns will apply for motorists heading north on Route 981 who wish to turn onto Mount Pleasant Road.

Crews from Walsh Construction Co. will construct the roundabout that is meant to improve safety and traffic flow at the intersection where Route 981 converges with Mount Pleasant, Kecksburg and Hecla roads.

The work is part of the $55.2 million Laurel Valley Transportation Improvement Project to upgrade the Route 981 corridor between the intersection with Route 819 in Mt. Pleasant Township and Arnold Palmer Regional Airport in Unity.

The Norvelt roundabout is near the northern end of the project’s southernmost segment, which was the first to begin construction and is slated for completion in September.
