Extra security is in place in the Norwin School District today after a threat of violence against a student and a middle school employee was discovered on social media Wednesday, Superintendent Jeff Taylor said.
The district said Thursday that the student who made the comment — reported through the state’s Safe2Say system — is not a threat to public safety.
North Huntingdon police were able to identify the individuals involved in the conversation, “and in partnership with the district, have taken the necessary steps to ensure these individuals are not on school transportation or property (Thursday),” Taylor said.
“In light of the horrific event that took place in Texas this week, I understand that this safety alert may cause a heightened sense of concern,” Taylor said in a message sent to parents Wednesday evening. “I encourage parents to take this opportunity to talk with your children about appropriate use of social media and the serious consequences of inappropriate communication.”
