Penguin Court looking for Certified Master Naturalists applicants

The Brandywine Conservancy’s Penguin Court Preserve in Ligonier Township’s Laughlintown neighborhood is offering discounted applications to train 15 Pennsylvania Certified Master Naturalists.

Applications are available for the fall 2019 course, which will train citizen volunteers in natural history. The discounted rate for the training is $325, which then increases to $400 after May 1.

For the Penguin Court naturalist program, applicants must be Laurel Highlands residents. Space is limited to 15 applicants.

To become a certified Master Naturalist volunteer, an individual must complete a 50-hour volunteer training course followed by annual volunteer service and continuing education in the natural sciences.

Training at Penguin Court will begin Aug. 13 and run through Oct. 29. A training schedule and application information can be found on Pennsylvania Master Naturalist’s website at www.pamasternaturalist.org under “Become a Master Naturalist” and “Training Courses.”

Master Naturalists work on a number of service projects including habitat restoration, nature walks, interpretative displays, water quality monitoring and supporting local conservation efforts.
