A Penn Township man who in 2016 pleaded guilty to restraining his mother was arrested this week on charges of assaulting his father during an argument near his home.
Penn Township police charged Neal Hubish, 39, with criminal mischief, disorderly conduct, harassment and simple assault in connection with the incident on Burrell Hill Road about 6 p.m. Monday. Night Court District Judge Jason Buczak ordered Hubish held in the Westmoreland County Prison after he failed to post $25,000 bail.
Officer Jacob Seefeld was dispatched for an alleged assault and was met by Hubish’s father who reported his son was repairing his roof.
Seefeld said in court documents that the pair began arguing and Hubish “broke the mailbox,” hit his father and “threw him on the roadway.” Seefeld said the younger Hubish, who denied the assault, was taken into custody at the scene.
On Dec. 18, Hubish pleaded guilty to unlawful restraint and driving on a suspended license before Judge Timothy Krieger in connection with the incident involving his mother. Krieger sentenced him to up to two years minus two days in jail, but gave him credit for time served in connection with the February 2016 incident in Jeannette. Charges of kidnapping, robbery and false imprisonment were dropped as part of the plea agreement, according to court records.
In the Feb. 9, 2016 case, Jeannette Police said Hubish made threats against his then 61-year-old mother, demanded $16,000 and refused to let her go anywhere with a phone or internet access the day after she picked him up from the Westmoreland County Prison.
Police allege the victim was able to flee early the next day when she drove to a city gas station to get help.
Hubish has a hearing scheduled May 21 before Harrison City District Judge Helen Kistler on the township complaints.
