PennDOT bridge work to restrict traffic on 2 Jeannette streets

Traffic will be restricted to a single lane on sections of South Fourth Street and Chambers Avenue in Jeannette this week while crews work on bridges that carry the streets over local creeks.

According to PennDOT, the daytime restrictions are scheduled for 7 a.m to 5 p.m. each of two days, with work taking place Thursday on Fourth Street, between Division Street and Chambers Avenue, and Friday on Chambers, between Cuyler and Brown avenues.

Traffic will be controlled by flaggers as crews from Mekis Construction replace compression seals and place an epoxy-based surface treatment on the bridges.

The work is part of a $2 million PennDOT project to preserve 22 bridges on 16 routes in Westmoreland County. The project is expected to wrap up in October.
