PennDOT will hold a job fair Tuesday near Donegal for those interested in applying for open positions in Westmoreland and three other counties.

The event is set for 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Pennsylvania Turnpike stockpile at 183 Claypike Road, Acme, which is located in Mt. Pleasant Township.

Recruiters will be on hand to discuss openings for positions including seasonal radio dispatchers as well as permanent and seasonal diesel mechanics and drivers in Westmoreland, Fayette, Somerset and Cambria counties.

Attendees can learn about benefit options and opportunities for permanent employment.

Hourly wages begin at $18.99 for transportation equipment operators and $23.27 for diesel mechanics.

Equipment operators must have a valid Pennsylvania Class A or B commercial driver’s license with no restrictions. Diesel Mechanics must have a valid CDL and a Pennsylvania Class 7 inspector mechanic certification. Both positions also require a current medical examiner certificate.

Those attending may participate in on-the-spot applications, interviews and driving skills testing. Applicants should bring their CDL license.

Staff will have laptops available to help applicants navigate the electronic application system.

The job fair comes on the heels of a series of four similar events, each held in one of the counties in PennDOT District 12. In addition to Westmoreland and Fayette, District 12 includes Washington and Greene counties.

“All of them were well-attended, and there was a lot of interest in the positions,” said Melissa Maczko, safety press officer for District 12.

Still, she said, PennDOT is hoping to add to its list of job candidates.

Those who aren’t able to attend the latest event can learn about and apply for PennDOT job openings by visiting employment.pa.gov.
