Traffic will be restricted to a single lane beginning Thursday on a section of Route 981 in Mt. Pleasant Township as crews continue work on the first phase of PennDOT’s Laurel Valley Transportation Improvement Project.
The lane restriction will be in place through mid-June, between Kecksburg and Boyer roads, as workers from Walsh Construction Co. prepare for replacement of the Hurst Run box culvert.
Hecla Road will remain closed at the intersection of Route 981 through the end of June as crews construct segments of a new roundabout. A posted detour is in place using Hecla Road, Routes 981 and 819, and Armbrust-Hecla Road.
Divided into three phases, the $55.2 million Laurel Valley project is intended to upgrade the Route 981 corridor between Route 819 in Mt. Pleasant Township and the Arnold Palmer Regional Airport in Unity.
The first, southernmost, phase extends between Route 819 and a point just south of the village of Calumet in Mt. Pleasant Township.
