More than 1.4 million Pennsylvanians have now been fully vaccinated against covid-19, according to the latest data released Monday.

That means more than 11.2% of every resident — including the 20.6% that are under 18 and not eligible for the vaccine — have received either both doses of the Pfizer or Moderna vaccine or the single-shot Johnson & Johnson vaccine. When factoring out those ineligible for the vaccine, that share rises to 14.1%.

Those numbers include both data from the Pennsylvania Department of Health and Philadelphia’s Department of Health, which keep separate records when it comes to vaccinations in the state. As of Monday, the state is reporting 1,282,679 people have received both doses, while Philadelphia is reporting 142,952 more for a total of 1,425,631.

The state has begun counting the new J&J shots among those it lists as “fully vaccinated.”

In Allegheny County, the portion of all residents fully vaccinated is 11.8% (144,144); in Westmoreland County, it’s 10.4% (37,962). Only counting those eligible for the shot, those numbers rise to 14.5% in Allegheny and 12.7% in Westmoreland.

There are 2,970,242 Pennsylvanians with at least one dose of a vaccine (counting both state and Philadelphia numbers) — which translates to 29.5% of those eligible to receive the shots.

Pennsylvania

On Monday, the state’s Department of Health reported a two-day total of 3,302 new covid-19 cases, a slight increase from last week’s two-day report (3,176).

Of the latest cases, 2,921 cases were confirmed through PCR tests, with 381 of them listed as probable. Health officials define a probable case as one in which a patient has a positive viral antigen test or covid symptoms with a “high-risk exposure” to someone who has been confirmed to have coronavirus.

Philadelphia led the state with the most new cases in the two-day period, with 342. It was followed by Allegheny (275), Montgomery (273), Bucks (220) and Delaware (177).

Other Western Pennsylvania counties reporting: Westmoreland (76), Butler (40), Beaver (28), Fayette (26), Lawrence (22), Washington (19), Armstrong (7), Indiana (7) and Somerset (6).

Hospitalization numbers ticked up slightly, with 1,450 currently reported to be hospitalized with covid-19. Of those, 286 are in intense care units and 167 are on ventilators. Despite the increase, hospital numbers are down over 15% from March 1 (1,715) and 74% from the first of the year (5,624).

Officials announced 14 new covid-related deaths, with all of them occurring in March. According to the state, 24,587 Pennsylvanians have died of covid since the pandemic began last year.

To date, the state has recorded 967,598 cases of covid-19, with 829,005 confirmed through PCR tests.

Allegheny County

There were 275 new cases of covid-19 reported over the two-day span in Allegheny County, putting the total number of cases to date over the 80,000 mark. The new report is a slight decline from last week’s 278 reported, but 30% fewer than this time one month ago (394).

Of the new cases, 228 were confirmed through 1,258 PCR tests, of which four are more than a week old. There were 47 cases listed as probable. The dates of positive tests ranged from Feb. 25 to Sunday. New cases ranged in age from 2 months to 92 years, with a median age of 36 years.

Officials with the Allegheny County Department of Health reported one new death, a person in their 40s, with a March 12 date of death.

Among the new cases — 127 female, 148 male — the age breakdown is:

Ages 0-4: 11 Ages 5-12: 24 Ages 13-18: 17 Ages 19-24: 26 Ages 25-49: 110 Ages 50-64: 59 Ages 65 and over: 28

There are 153 Allegheny County residents currently hospitalized with covid-19. Of those, 40 are in intense care units and 15 on ventilators. That’s a 9.4% decline since March 1 (169) and a 78% drop since Jan. 1 (697).

Since the pandemic began last year, the county has recorded 80,054 cases of covid-19, with 62,335 of those cases confirmed through PCR tests.

Westmoreland County

For the fourth day in a row, there were no new covid-related deaths reported in Westmoreland County. It’s the longest span of its kind since Sept. 30-Oct. 4. It’s also the fifth time in the past eight days and the seventh time this month in which the county has had no new deaths reported.

To date, the covid-related death toll in Westmoreland County stands at 688.

There were 76 new covid cases reported in the two-day period, with 68 of those cases confirmed through 327 PCR tests. There were eight cases listed as probable.

There are 121 Westmoreland County residents hospitalized with covid-19. Of those, five are in intense care units and two on ventilators. The numbers are up 9% since March 1 (111), but down 27.5% since Jan. 1 (167).

To date, there have been 27,646 cases of covid in Westmoreland County, with 19,420 cases confirmed through PCR testing.
