The University of Pittsburgh at Greensburg Chorale and Blair Chorale will take part in a free performance in Murrysville.

The groups will perform the Duruflé Requiem, composed by Maurice Duruflé, at 5:30 p.m. March 23 at Newlonsburg Presbyterian Church in Murrysville.

There is no cost to attend. The church is at 4600 Old William Penn Highway in Murrysville.

Duruflé, born in 1902 in France, was a composer, organist and teacher. From 1929 until his death, he was the organist at the St.-Etienne-du-Mont in Paris.

“Requiem” was composed in 1947. The majority of thematic materials in Duruflé’s “Requiem” are taken from the Gregorian chant of the “Mass for the Dead.” Below, hear a performance by the Ambrosian Singers with the New Philharmonia Orchestra.
