Authorities say a Greensburg woman tried to board a plane at Arnold Palmer Regional airport on Tuesday with this loaded gun in her purse.

On Tuesday, a man at Pittsburgh International Airport and a woman at Arnold Palmer Regional Airport were stopped from boarding planes with loaded handguns.

According to a Transportation Safety Administration release, the gun at Pittsburgh International was found by the checkpoint X-ray machine. Allegheny County Police were alerted to question the man, a resident of Sewickley Township.

At Arnold Palmer, the Greensburg woman’s gun was discovered in her purse at the security checkpoint. Westmoreland County Park Police were alerted to question her.

As of Tuesday, 12 guns have been found at the Pittsburgh airport so far this year. Last year, 21 guns were stopped there, 35 in 2019, 34 in 2018 and 32 in 2017. At Arnold Palmer, it was the third gun stopped by TSA so far this year, compared to 1 in 2020, 3 in 2019, 2 in 2018 and 2 in 2017.

“I want to remind travelers not to bring their guns to an airport security checkpoint,” said Karen Keys-Turner, federal security director for TSA in Pittsburgh. “Even if you have a concealed carry permit, you are not permitted to carry a gun onto an airplane.”
