Rochester man drowns in Donegal Township pond
A Rochester man’s apparent drowning death Friday in Donegal Township is under investigation by state police and Westmoreland County Coroner Tim Carson.
Carson said it appears that Glenn T. White, 58, was the victim of an accidental drowning when he jumped into a pond to retrieve an injured bird, went under the water and didn’t resurface.
An official ruling on the cause and manner of the death is pending results of an autopsy.
White was pronounced dead at about 8 p.m. at the scene at 273 Rock Canyon Road, Carson said. White’s body was recovered from the water by the Greensburg Volunteer Fire Department dive team, according to Carson.
Firefighters initially were dispatched at about 5 p.m. to one of two ponds located along Rock Canyon Road, according to a Westmoreland County 911 dispatcher.
A water rescue team from Scottdale Volunteer Fire Department was among additional units called to help search the pond.
