A power outage caused Rostraver Elementary School to close on Wednesday, Belle Vernon Area School District officials announced.

According to an alert on the district website, the outage occurred at 6:30 a.m. and affected multiple systems in the building, including HVAC, security, phones and internet access.

“This is not a Flexible Instruction Day, and students are not required to work remotely,” the district said. “We are confident all systems will be functional by the end of the day.”

The district said it expects state educational officials will approve an emergency waiver so that students would not be required to make up the lost day of instruction.

Operations continued normally at the district’s three remaining schools.

A school secretary confirmed late Wednesday that classes will resume on Thursday.
