Reward increased for info on fatal shooting of bald eagle in Westmoreland
The organizers of a GoFundMe account created after a bald eagle was found shot in Westmoreland County have increased their reward for information about the shooting to $1,000.
The bald eagle died after it was found on the West Penn Trail in Derry Township on Oct. 4.
Earlier this week, Pennsylvania Game Commission Game Warden Bill Brehun said the shooting remains under investigation. The commission is asking anyone with information to call its Southwest Region office at 724-238-9523.
West Penn Trail Council members and a trail user originally started the GoFundMe account to pay for the bird’s medical expenses at the Humane Animal Rescue’s Wildlife Center in Verona. They later decided to put a portion of the money raised toward a reward for information. The reward started out at $500 before going up to $750 and, now, $1,000.
As of Thursday afternoon, the fund had raised about $2,600.
