Scottdale Concert Band kicks off season with back-to-back performances

The Scottdale Concert Band will perform at 7 p.m. July 8 and 9 in Scottdale and Ligonier to kick off it upcoming summer concert series. The band was formed in 1981, and in 2021 reorganized as a nonprofit organization which can apply for grants and accept donations.
The concerts will be under the direction of Roderick Booker and assistant directors Fredrick Collins and Lee Matchett. The band has more than 50 members who range in age from teens to musicians in their 80s. This season’s concerts also will feature the group’s new 20-piece jazz band.
The July 8 concert will be at the Scottdale Gazebo Park, at the intersection of Pittsburgh and Spring streets in Scottdale, and the July 9 performance will be on the Ligonier Diamond, at the intersection of Route 711 and Main Street in Ligonier.
