‘Seculosity’ author to speak on future of American religion, spirituality

Author, editor and podcaster David Zahl will speak at Ligonier Town Hall on March 12 on the decline of organized religion and the rise of “replacement” religions.
Zahl is the author of “Seculosity: How Career, Parenting, Technology, Food, Politics, and Romance Became Our New Religion and What to Do about It” (Fortress Press).
Zahl’s thesis is that even though institutional religion is losing ground, secular religiosity — “seculosity” — in the form of political parties, parenting styles, special diets, work success and romantic fulfillment is more popular than ever.
His talk, which is free and open to the public, is part of a book tour being hosted by Epiphany Anglican Fellowship, Ligonier, and begins at 7:30 p.m.
Zahl is the founder and director of Mockingbird Ministries, editor-in-chief of the Mockingbird website (www.mbird.com) and co-host of The Mockingcast podcast. He and his family live in Charlottesville, Va., where he also serves on the staff of Christ Episcopal Church.
