Sewickley Township municipal building is off Mars Hill Road.

Sewickley Township officials say a home on Fifth Street has been condemned due to “terrible living conditions,” said supervisor Brian Merdian.

“We’ve been getting numerous complaints about the condition of the entire property particularly about garbage and trash mounting, odor, and animals roaming there for a few years,” Merdian said.

Humane agents this week removed 37 animals from the property including dogs, cats, chickens, goats and ducks, he said.

“Two dead animals were also removed from the property,” Merdian said. “We found an absolutely disgraceful situation. Because two young children were living with the couple there, Westmoreland County Children and Youth Services were also called in.”

He said humane agents who took the animals to an undisclosed animal shelter indicated that animal neglect charges are pending against the couple who lived in the brick home.

“It’s been an ongoing problem there,” he said.
