Charley Family Shop ’n Save owner Ray Charley has made it to Arizona.

Charley, 67, is on a 3,058-mile cross-country ride, from San Diego to St. Augustine, Fla., to raise money for Feherty’s Troops First Foundation. He began the ride April 1.

“Today’s a short day,” Charley said Tuesday. “Only 75 miles!”

Charley’s weekend consisted of a Saturday during which he biked 96 miles, and a Sunday that saw him pedal an additional 90 miles in temperatures topping 100 degrees.

Charley is posting regular updates through the Charley Family Shop ’n Save Facebook page.

“It’s a beautiful day,” he said Saturday during a Facebook Live post broadcast from Salome, Ariz. “There’s lots of cactus because we’re in the desert, but this is kind of like a little oasis in the middle of the desert.”

Charley’s son Tom said his father has always been an active person, but the ride is taking things to a new level.

“He’s an ambitious person, the type who likes to take on challenges,” Charley said in a Facebook Live video prior to the ride. “It’s really awesome to see what he’s been doing.”
